Final Placement
Students get the intimation about placement opportunities from the university’s Centre for Corporate Relations (CCR) through emails as well as on the notice board for placement news. Interested students can convey their choice either through mail or by signing in the relevant sheet with CCR within the specified time limit. As the recruiter confirms the date of the interview process, it is communicated to the students to prepare documents required by the recruiter such as CV and Summer Internship Project Report and any other relevant document. The interview process is mostly conducted on the campus but in selected cases, the students visit the recruiter’s premises for the process. While students can appear for multiple interviews, it is binding on their part to accept the first offer made to them. The recruited students can join their companies after their final examinations are over in March.
The placement process is a rolling one that commences in November every year.
Summer Internship
One of the major objectives of the Summer Internship Project is to enable students to transfer their knowledge gained in classrooms to the workplace as well as to familiarize them with the functioning of the corporate world. The process for pursuing a summer internship is undertaken at the end of the first year which is more or less identical to the final placement process. Apart from availing of the opportunities to do an internship through the campus process, students also have the freedom to choose companies on their own. CCR ensures that every student has a Summer Internship opportunity in his/her chosen stream of specialization. The process usually begins in mid of October every year. The prescribed Summer Internship period is six to eight weeks from mid of April to mid of June. Special workshops are conducted in February, where instructional material is handed out to the students. Students can choose any BGU faculty as their academic mentor. The Summer Internship Project Report is of 6 credits. An excellent summer project report is a passport to a dream job.
Short Term Projects
The objective of a short term project(usually 10-15 days) is to allow students to have a feel of the real problems or issues in the industry and how to tackle them. A good project is also a useful tool for placement. Students are expected to complete 2/3 Short Term Projects in their IInd/IIIrd/IVth trimester for which prior permission is to be taken by the students from the programme coordinator/chairperson of the programme. Appropriate credits are assigned after the successful completion of the projects.
Campus Connect
Recruiters always look for industry-ready candidates. One way to ensure this is to offer industry-relevant training to students while they are pursuing their degree. BGU Campus Connect Programme offers an ideal platform for companies. HDFC Bank, Tata-AIG and several other companies have offered these programmes to BGU students. Usually, companies conduct an eligibility test to select students for their Campus to Connect Programme. Successful students are then offered the training programme.
Pre-Placement Offers
This process takes place during the Summer Internship period. The internship tenure offers an ideal opportunity for the company to evaluate the calibre and suitability of the students for placement. If the company is convinced about the value addition that the student can bring to the company, it may offer a Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) of employment to the student after the completion of the course. Alternately, the company may make a special note to earmark high performing students when they eventually come to the campus for placement. BGU students have benefited under both of the above approaches by companies.
